How about using Past Simple x Past Continuous? Here we have eight situations. Choose two of them and create a sentence. You can give names to the characters! ;)
Diana Jessica- semester 4 Picture 1- The thief was stealing the jewel when the policeman saw him Picture 2- The waiter was pouring the drink when the dog attacked him
Picture 1 - The thief was stealing the jewels when the policeman caught him in the act.
Picture 4 - The nurse usually works at the hospital, but on that day, when she was going to work by bicycle, two cars crashed and she decided to work there to help people.
Number 2: Lisa was playing golf when it started to rain.

Great! You can also say "picking" some flowers.

Ivo, check the spelling of the verb: excavate. Also, use the subject pronoun "he" in John was excavating something when HE found something.
